…then we’ve invented the mother of all hockey leagues!
League of Girls Hockey (formerly Tween Girls Hockey League) is a recreational hockey program in which players ages 7 - 17 improve their skills in a non-competitive, non-time intensive environment.
Weekly ice sessions include professional instruction in hockey’s basic skills, scrimmages/games, fun and camaraderie.
Please note, this is not a learn-to-skate program. Participants should know how to skate when enrolling.
There are several co-ed hockey leagues that, of course, welcome girls, beginning at age 4. Technically, these co-ed programs continue to be offered as the girls grow older. But once they hit their tween years, the programs do not meet the unique needs of girls. And, if a girl hasn’t started playing hockey by their tween years, it’s intimidating to do so, even in a typical girls’-only house league. Hockey is just not a very accessible sport due to the significant financial investment and time commitment required. Statistics reflect this trend. According to the Canadian Women & Sport Rally Report,1 in 3 girls drop out of sport during adolescence (vs. 1 in 10 boys).
That’s where the League of Girls Hockey comes in. Our program is geared specifically to the needs of adolescent girls who want to learn and improve their hockey skills. We meet once a week, on weeknights only, and enable girls to build their hockey skills and confidence, in a safe and supportive environment.
The TGHL features a high-energy, positive vibe, fuelled by professional coaches, female role models and on-ice volunteers.
